Year in Review

I’m not totally sure I’m done writing for the year yet, but I thought I’d get ahead of the onslaught of end-of-year #content and recap what I’ve done. It’s been a busy 2024 on my end.

Books(!)

• Well, this was the big thing, wasn’t it? I wrote Mind Game. Here’s some recent promo I don’t think I’ve plugged here yet:

• I announced my second book, Finding Renée, which will be a biography of the trans tennis player Renée Richards. It’ll be out from HarperCollins in 2026.

• I wrote for Slate thrice this year, on Brittney Griner’s book, Nickelodeon’s #MeToo reckoning, and how to make funny jokes about women’s sports
• Heading into the Olympics, I wrote for The New York Times about Simone Biles’s legacy in the world of sport psychology
• For The Washington Post, I teamed up with Jesse Dougherty to report on the state of trans-athlete eligibility in the NAIA and NCAA
• For Outside, I wrote about how athletes make the decision to open up about their mental health
• I profiled swimmer Lydia Jacoby for Texas Monthly
• I of course stayed on top of the Marc Summers beat, reviewing his off-Broadway show for InsideHook (btw, he’s going to be in a Hallmark Chanukah movie)
• I wrote twice for Them, on a New York county’s anti-trans sports ban and then on trans track star CeCé Telfer’s book

Miscellaneous

• Penelope turned 10.

  

• I tried to roller skate (and failed miserably). Stay tuned for my January adventure, which will be snowboarding.

• I’m going to teach a sports journalism course at the New School next semester (if I survive snowboarding)
